Listen to your gut. — A Journey Through the Digestive Tract
From the mouth to the rectum, food and drinks make this journey every day.
Set out on a journey and explore the stomach, intestines, and more through rare specimens
and lifelike models at the University of Basel’s Anatomical Museum.

What actually happens to our food after we swallow the first bite? Why does our stomach growl? Why does my stomach hurt from laughing? Answers to these and many other questions are provided by the current temporary exhibition “Trust Your Gut. — A Journey Through the Digestive Tract.”

The exhibition is part of the 26/27 collaborative project of the Museums Network under the overarching subject “At Home—On the Go” and takes visitors on an extraordinary journey through the human digestive tract—from the oral cavity to the rectum.

Rare anatomical specimens, lifelike models, and interactive stations vividly illustrate how our digestive system works and the central role it plays in our health. The exhibition also explores why our gut is often referred to as the “second brain.”

Equipped with clipboards and lab coats, adults and children can make their first diagnoses regarding the subject of the gastrointestinal tract, test their knowledge with specially designed games, or relax in the stomach room while listening to the soothing sounds of digestion. The exhibition is thus ideal for anyone who wants to explore their own anatomy through fun and games.
