Temporary exhibition during the Ice Hockey World Championships in Switzerland

Ice hockey – arguably the fastest and one of the most thrilling team sports in the world. In May 2026, the world’s best players will be visiting Switzerland to crown the world champions.

The Anatomical Museum aims to take a look at ice hockey from an unusual perspective, focusing on some of the most common injuries and risks. Find out what measures are taken to prevent head and brain injuries, as well as cuts, so that the enjoyment of the sport isn’t spoiled.

At the University of Basel, however, ice hockey isn’t just dry theory – it’s also played:

  • EHC Uni Basel competes for the title in the 4th Central League and is open to non-university members too. (www.ehcunibasel.ch)
  • All students, staff and alumni of the University of Basel have the opportunity to lace up their ice hockey skates and enjoy this wonderful sport at the Kunschti Margarethen during the ice season as part of the university’s sports programme
